Lent Course

'Another Story Must Begin'

Humanity and the Power of Grace

This year’s Lent Course is based on the 2012 award-winning film adaptation of Victor Hugo’s Les Misérables. As we look at some of the main themes and characters of this story, we’ll explore together the power of grace and kindness, where life is hard. The story is heart-rendingly beautiful, and so is the music, but what might it say to people in the 21st century concerning the opportunities for a new start, for redemption, that so many of us long for in the face of so many struggles?

The course is open to all, whether or not you have seen the film or the stage musical – or even read the novel!

There will be five weekly sessions on Mondays and Tuesdays throughout Lent, led by Rev’d Jo, Rev’d Debs and Rev’d Phil. The sessions are free and open to all. You simply choose whether you’ll attend the sessions on Mondays, at 12 noon (bring your own lunch) at Ormesby St Michael’s Church, or the repeats at Phil’s home (address below) on Tuesday evenings, at 7-8.30 pm. (You can switch between days if you need to.) The dates are:

SESSION 1 Mon 10 Mar OR Tue 11 Mar
SESSION 2 Mon 17 Mar OR Tue 18 Mar
SESSION 3 Mon 24 Mar OR Tue 25 Mar
SESSION 4 Mon 31 Mar OR Tue 1 Apr
SESSION 5 Mon 7 Apr OR Tue 8 Apr

PLEASE NOTE: If you need to switch between the days for any particular week, that’s fine. And don’t worry if you can’t attend all the sessions: just come when you can, and all will be well!

We’ll also be showing a screening of the entire film on Sunday 2 March, at 3pm, at Ormesby St Michael’s Church.
All are welcome to attend – come with a friend if you can!
